Embattled Greens Senator for New South Wales Lee Rhiannon has defended her actions by saying she was only "doing what Tony Abbott does."
Senator Rhiannon is under fire after distributing leaflets around the inner suburbs of Sydney that were critical of the Coalition's new and improved Gonski 2.0 education funding package.
The problem was that other Greens Senators in Canberra were negotiating with the Coalition to increase funding for public schools at the same time!
Some see this as undermining the Greens leadership, particularly Greens leader Senator Richard Di Natale. Others said it was white-anting, possibly even sniping.
But Senator Rhiannon has resisted calls for her to step down at the next federal election, and has attempted to justify her actions by comparing herself to the former Prime Minister.
"Typical isn't it? It's okay for a straight, white male to do it, but once a woman tries to enter a traditionally male domain, it's smacked down right away."
But, really, the comparison is flawed, because we all know if there's one thing that Tony Abbott says Tony Abbott doesn't do, it is sniping.
